All About Cavalier King Charles Spaniels! 🐾

Size: 13-15 lbs. Cavalier’s are a small, cuddly breed. They are perfect for traveling or being pampered at home!

Shedding: Moderate. A manageable amount of hair. A Cavalier’s coat grows a little bit longer on their ears, tail, and feet! At the store, we often refer to it as, “Grinch Toes.”

Barking: Low, generally quiet and well-mannered.

Experience Level: Suitable for first-time owners. Cavalier’s fit perfectly into any family.

Children:  Cavalier’s are friendly and family-oriented. They enjoy snuggles and curling up with a good book (and a lot of treats).

Apartment Living: Well-suited for apartment life, Cavalier’s do not require a lot of physical activity, aside from a quick walk or playtime around the house.

Other Pets: Generally gets along well with other animals

Training: Easy. Cavalier’s are intelligent, eager to please, and quick to learn.

Fun Facts! 🎉

  • The breed is named after King Charles II of England, who was so devoted to the toy spaniels that he reportedly took them everywhere, even to Parliament.
  •  Recent scientific research indicates that Cavaliers are the breed furthest removed from wolves, both physically and behaviorally. They remain in a “neotenic” or “Peter Pan” state, meaning their genetic makeup is similar to a 20-day-old wolf puppy for their entire lives—prioritizing snuggling over pack dominance.
  • As of 2025, a Cavalier named Ira gained fame as the family dog of actor David Corenswet. While filming the 2025 Superman movie, Ira was reportedly the “diva” of the set, charming the entire cast and director James Gunn.
  • Owners often joke that Cavaliers have “internal atomic clocks” because they are remarkably precise at knowing exactly when it is breakfast or dinner time.
  • Cavaliers come in 4 distinct color patterns, Blenheim, Ruby, Black and Tan, and Tri colored.
