All About Miniature Dachshunds! 🐾

• Size: 11 lbs and under. Perfectly compact, famously shaped like a hot dog, and ideal for anyone looking for a small dog with a massive, entertaining personality!
• Shedding: Low to moderate depending on coat type. Smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired varieties all have different grooming needs, but they generally keep their mess to a minimum.
• Barking: Frequent. Dachshunds are brave little watchdogs with a big dog bark, always ready to let you know when the mail carrier has arrived.
• Experience Level: Better for intermediate owners. They are independent and stubborn, requiring a patient owner.
• Children: Best with older, gentle children who understand how to properly support their long backs and avoid rough housing.
• Apartment Living: Highly adaptable to apartments! While they love a good snooze on the couch, they do need regular short walks to keep their back muscles strong.
• Other Pets: Can be selective. They often prefer the company of other Dachshunds, but can co-exist happily with other pets if socialized early. Watch out around small pocket pets, as their hunting instinct is strong!
• Training: Highly intelligent but famously independent. They respond best to fun, positive reinforcement and plenty of tasty treats!

• Originally bred in Germany hundreds of years ago, their unique elongated shape and fierce bravery were specifically engineered to hunt badgers right inside their underground dens.
• A Miniature Dachshund named Waldi was the very first official mascot in the history of the Olympic Games, representing the 1972 Munich Olympics.
• Because of their long spines and short ribs, Dachshunds are prone to back issues—so it is highly recommended to use doggy ramps for couches and beds to keep them from jumping!
